Below is a letter that was sent home on September 10, 2019, that explains our classroom management.
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The purpose of this letter is to explain Room 212’s Classroom Management Plan. To begin with, please understand that the ideas of the plan came directly from the students. We all felt we should follow the school’s Tiger Pride expectations, which is:
BE SAFE
BE RESPECTFUL
BE RESPONSIBLE
We decided that we had to be more specific and provide examples of each of the three expectations. To do this, we formed teams and came up with ideas. We came together and wrote these ideas on a classroom anchor chart. We carefully reviewed and tweaked the ideas. Once we finally agreed upon all the ideas listed on the charts, we signed it and the charts are treated as a contract. We have them hanging on a wall, and have had to refer to them already to remind ourselves of what our agreed upon expectation are and will continue to be throughout our school year together. Please feel free to stop by before or after school and have your child show you our classroom contract. We worked very hard on it and they are very proud of it.
Last, the students and I felt it is important to inform you of how their day went. As a result, hanging in our room on a closet door is a classroom clip chart that includes different areas of behavior. It includes: role model, fantastic behavior, good choices, ready to learn, think about it, teacher’s choice and parent contact. Students agreed we should track our behavior to hold them accountable for following our classroom management plan--be safe, respectful and responsible. As a result, I created a tracking chart for them to fill in at the end of the day. Please review this with your child when they come home and initial off on it. There is a column just for your initials.
Thank you so much for your support at home and for being part of our classroom family. Please contact me with any questions.
Mrs. Matz
